On International Youth Day, we are proud to highlight Lakiesha Roe, an inspiring young person who joined The Y School in March.
Initially struggling with school attendance at her mainstream school, Lakiesha found motivation through her passion for fashion and with the support of our dedicated staff took the brave step to enroll at the Y School.
Her journey took a significant turn during a recent excursion to the Dumbartung Aboriginal Corporation. While here, Lakiesha's enthusiasm and potential caught the eye of Uncle Rob and Aunty Selina, who were so impressed that they shared her story online. The next day, Lakiesha received an exciting offer to model for bridal wear, as an Aboriginal model - a perfect match for her aspirations.
With the support of Dumbartung and guidance from former model Joleen Watson, Lakiesha stepped into the spotlight for her first professional photo shoot. Her performance was stellar, earning praise from Joleen, who is now eager to introduce Lakiesha to leading modelling agents in Perth.
Liz Parker, Executive Principal at the Y School celebrated Lakiesha's journey, “Lakiesha’s growth into a confident, talented young woman has been truly inspiring. We are immensely proud of her progress and excited for her future”, she said.
Lakiesha’s story is a powerful example of how positive choices can lead to incredible opportunities. We’ll be supporting her every step of the way!
